Unified Musical Instrument Surfaces (UMIS)

UMIS-Project  (Unified Musical Instrument Surfaces) is an artistic research project led by Dr. Jacob Sello. Within the scope of this project, two new hybrid instruments, so-called “Hexenkessel”and “Hexenkesselchen” and the accompanying software are being developed. The classical timpani is given an overhaul, equipped with infrared lights, infrared camera and a projector, to create an amalgam, unifying acoustic musical instrument, score sheet and control surface.
